Traduzione e ibridismo culturale in I figli della mezzanotte di Salman Rushdie

Abstract

Liminal space and its creative potentialities have been scarcely explored by Translation Studies in Italy and even less by the Italian publishing industry. The in-between space is a culturally fertile ground for post-colonial translation, since “it is the inter – the cutting edge of translation and renegotiation – that carries the burden of the meaning of culture” (Bhabha 1994: 38-39). In this paper, Rushdie’s ‘word’ will be investigated as an expression of creativity; in particular, ‘the strange middle ground’ of Rushdie’s “Midnight’s Children” (1981) will be explored to see how liminal space and hybridity have been conveyed in the Italian translation of the novel.
