Personaggio romanzesco e realtà nel XIX secolo: un contratto difficile
Abstract
With the appearance of cyclic novels during the course of the nineteenth century, the literary character lost most of its autonomy and independence. External reality and family dynamics began to limit its movements from many perspectives, and the awareness about their semiotic codes became increasingly more and more vital for the characters’ survival. From a narratological point of view, narrators were thus obliged to increase the number of descriptive passages, which became a very important tool for the analysis of the protagonists’ inner life and profoundconflicts.
